.....La Conexión Colombiana.....

I've got good news and bad news - but really, the bad news is good news for all of us.

First the bad news:

The Rules -

Violating any of the five items listed below will make a three strike rule effective against the violating member of the forum. After the third strike you will be banned either temporarily or permanently. Whether it's a temporary or permanent ban will be taken under consideration depending on various factors:

a. Length of membership.
b. Historical tendencies to attack people vs. arguments.
c. Moderator vote.
d. Newbies who launch personal attacks off-the-bat after sign-up, and "shark" posters who do nothing but attack will be banned immediately with no three strikes rule.

Temporary bans are 3 days off-site.

1. Anyone involved in personal attacks, name-calling, cultural slurs, i.e., defamation of a forum member for their nationality or regional association, perpetuating stereotypes of a people for their national heritage or culture in any manner (especially regarding children, inclusive of topics of sexuality), or racism on either side of an "argument" or discussion.

2. Anyone trolling, as well as those identified inviting them to the forum.

3. Abusive language of a sexual nature directed at any of our members male or female will be considered the same as a personal attack and dealt with in the same manner.

4. Impersonation of members from other sites will result in an immediate permanent ban as soon as the impersonation is verified. A temporary ban may be applied until this is verified.

5. All posts or thread topics falling under the categories above will be deleted.

Aside from what's been stated above, there will be no language censorship or topic censorship, within reason, i.e., discussions of any deviate nature are going to be deleted, and the person discussing them considered to be trolling. By deviate nature, this will primarily concern anything regarding children in topics of sex, intent to abuse, including spouse or partner, or anything else which would be perceived to be violent or abusive towards children or indicating an intent to behave violently toward anyone else. This does not mean that a member can't warn of a potential danger to children, within the forum. That would be welcome conversation. I don't think this is too difficult to grasp. This is a public forum for anyone in the world to read - use your heads.

FYI - Definition of "Troll":

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

That's it.

Now the good news (aside from the censorship thing):

Our community has some cool features:

First of all, say you're on an excursion to la costa and you see DG on vacation there, you can take a photo on your cell phone and use your cellphone to send the photo or video to your Col•Amigos email address to automatically upload your photo or video to the site! That presents some cool possibilities as people are hanging out and getting a play-by-play from carnival or anything else like that.

Music can be uploaded to the main page so you can hear sounds from Colombia as you sit reading about what's going on. Once you navigate away from the main page to read a topic for example, you will no longer hear the music unless you use the pop-out feature of the player by clicking on the window icon to the right of the controls to open the player in a small, separate window. As an alternate, navigating to any link with the keystroke for loading the link in a new tabbed window will work. For Windows, that is a "Control-click" on the link. For Mac that is a "Command-click" on the link. At that point you can remain navigating in the new tabbed page as the music continues playing within the other tabbed page. Songs will continue to play in the playlist order without interruption until the playlist is complete. There are also manual controls to skip, repeat, pause, etc. Music can also be uploaded to your profile page and there is a 100 song limit, the same as the main page. It's suggested to post your favorite tracks on your profile page and request to post them on the main page. Once the main page reaches the 100 song limit, votes or suggestions for playlist content will be welcome.

Videos and photos can be uploaded to the main page and music can be uploaded to your personal profile page. You have the option to make your profile videos and photos visible to everyone, your friends or only yourself - and there are built-in slide show features that can be used. There is a 100 upload limit here as well, and that's a lot, but choose your favorites.

Private messaging is self-contained. At the upper-left corner of the page, the envelope icon will appear with the word "New" if you've received new messages. Responding to anyone does not generate an email to deliver the message to their personal email account but it's contained within the site and PM'ing can be handled very quickly this way. There is an option to send email to alert you that you've received a message, and this is on by default.

The members block on the main page shows the last 20 active members and the member icons link to their profile pages. You can also click on the members link in the navigation column at the top right of any page to reach profile pages. The icon to the right of your mail icon is a quick link to your friends. Clicking on it will reveal a pull-down space where all of their member icons will appear and from where you can jump to their pages.

The forum is fully searchable and threads that you've participated in can be "watched" and email sent to you when a reply has been posted and you have full control over any of these notifications to turn them off or on at will.

There are currently five categories for discussion which are shown on the left side of the forum page.

Colombia Discussion
Colombia Discusión en Español
The Pub - Open Discussion
Economics & Politics
Immigration & Travel

Please choose the appropriate category area from the pull-down menu that appears below the text box when writing a new topic discussion.

You'll discover other features not mentioned here, but just explore for yourself and you'll see other cool things that make our Col•Amigos community a fun place to hang out. With everyone's contribution, that will be the PEOPLE that make it cool and that's what it's all about.

Later Amigos!
