What do Colombians think of Gringos, now that the novelty has worn off?

You could say 10 years ago , a gringo in Colombia was rare. Now Colombians see them aorund everyday. So much so, a higher-end Paisa in Medellin, would not be caught dead in public with a gringo, due the negative stigma.

It must be strange, especially in Medellin to see all theses single middle-aged gringo males 35-45, wandering Medellin. Colombians must ask don't these men have American wives?, why are they here?, etc...

There was a time when I was here that a gringo was subject of certain rath or certain appreciation. I remember being at many parties and having people thank me for everything my county was doing to help them. Now that security has been brought and the boom is on due to it some seem to think they are better than the American. Well those people can kiss my ass. I only see it when I leave my neighborhood btw. here it is not an issue but why on earth a gringo would want to visit Colombia is beyond me.

People look at me with contempt, like they are better than me, make comments out loud in the street. Those Colombians are some very ungreatful people in general and very ignorant. They to me in general deserve all the bad press, deserve everyone in the US beleiving them to be narcos and deserve to have their country spelled Columbia. All the things they hate they do themselves and more so why should they not get it themselves? I find no reason.

I am sure that if I did not have my neighborhood and been established here for a long time I would leave Colombia in very short order. I was out of my neighborhood yesterday so it is all very fresh in my mind. Man I hate it and I am not going to blame the gringo. I blame the ignorant racist people who will judge an entire country, race or creed and bring that judgement to the individual.

It takes a lot of work on my half to win people over these days. I am growing rather tired of it. Since in whichever example you want to think of, be it gringos comming for sex tourism or drugs. The Colombians are doing the same things so who are they to judge? A bunch of hypocrites these people who look down their noses at the gringo or think they are better than him. They can all kiss my ass like I said.

Never had a Colombian look down on me, in my post I was mainly reffering to Paisas are embarrased, not to be seen looking desperate hanging with Gringo, as opposed to a few years ago, treated with more respect.

Wandering middle-aged gringos in Medellin, whats a Paisa to think !!

On another point, what do Bogota Colombians think of Medellin people, as the Paisa fancy themselves as Colombia's elite?

My Colombain friends who are not from Bogota tell me it is a Rolo thing. That the people here in Bogota are like that with everyone. Could be? But I have noticed an increase in name calling on the street, arrogance that did not exist before. You are not seeing this? How long have you been here? For me it is hugely noticeable from how things were 6 years ago. Those things never happened then. Now that more gringos have come I see it very different.

So what your saying is that it is only the change in the perception of the women that you are seeing? They are afraid to go with a gringo? Yep it has to be bigger than just with women for this to be the case. For a Colombiana to be afraid to be seen with a gringo?

Any Paisa that would be ashamed to walk down the street with a gringo just because he is a gringo then well that is pretty arrogant among other things. I guess ignorant, close minded and possibly even racist would come to mind. Now if she would not walk down with a 40 something construction worker just because he is a gringo that is different but that has never been the case that she would for as long as I have been here.

btw the main reason I don't go to Medellin is the women have a rep for being players and a bit plastic. From my own experiences with some of them I think there is something to this in general of course tehre are many exceptions but it is pretty common knowledge around Colombia that the women in Medellin are the most plastic. Certainly more boob jobs get done there than anywhere, that is a fact.

When I ask Colombian friends what is an appropriate young age for a guy to be dating for someone 40 to 45 they tell me 25 26 29 rarely older than that, to me this is too young but anyway.... Now if I ask them what about 55 or 65? Girls in their 40's is the response.

I guess when I see gringos 65 with girls 25 I want to throw up. But still I do see Colombians doing it, they are just not marring the girls since they already have a wife... jaja
